Marina & Andreas
have two "touristy" apartments in the center of St. Petersburg. Low-season and last-minute
discounts.
One unit is a small hotel room -like apartment with a
kitchenette on Konushennaya, just off Nevsky. Lots of light and at times
noise too. Very close to the Isakiyevsky Cathedral, former Royal Stables,
the "On the Blood" church dedicated to Alexander the Second who was
assassinated there in March of 1881 by revolutionaries unhappy either
with his liberal reforms in Russia and/or his crush of the Polish
uprising, which reminds us that no matter what you do in this land you
get screwed. I was most intrigued by a long corridor and the number of
locks you need to open before you get to the apartment.
Here is my
description from the winter of 2006/2007 when I stayed there for a
couple of pleasant days and night. The rate is around 50 Euro/night.
Their other place is on Millionnaya by The Hermitage.
My personal favourite. Dark and silent, with its own entrance. A piece
of Dostoyevskian Saint-Petersburg. A shower with a build-in stereo
system provide a bit of comic relief from the gravity of this vault of a
