Three "apartment hostels" near Metro Mayakovskaya. Operated by Vincent. Around 45 Euros per bed, 70-100 Euros for a private room. Near US Embassy, Tchailovsky ConcernHall, close to Beorussky, Leningradsky, Kazansky, and Yaroslavsky train stations. Easy access to both old city core and the Sheremetyevo airport.

Mayakovskaya has the reputation of an expensive red lights district.

Galina at Chistye Prudy. $10-something/night (MAY BE OUTDATED!!!!). The location just doesn't get any better.   Responds to inquiries fast. Lots of cats in the house. See the Lonely Planet discussion of Galina's Dorm. And let me use this opportunity to declare that I don't like the LP types. Not because they are cheap. That I could live with. There is such thing however as knowing too much and trying to do things just too right, which means a barrage of e-mails.  The administrative overhead over-informed backpackers generate is several times greater than that of an average travelling millionaire. The irony is that I'm more likely to offer a discount to someone with money than to penny-lickers.  (That was my Nov. 20, 2003 beef of the day.)
